SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating percentages for a normal probability distribution using the TI-89 calculator. A user inquires about determining the percentage of data above a specific value, given a normal distribution N(80,5). The recommended method involves numerically evaluating the integral of the normal distribution from the desired value to a high limit, such as 100, as there is no direct function for this calculation on the TI-89.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of normal probability distributions
  • Familiarity with the TI-89 calculator functions
  • Knowledge of integral calculus
  • Basic statistics concepts, including mean and standard deviation
NEXT STEPS
  • Learn how to use the TI-89 for numerical integration
  • Study the properties of normal distributions, specifically N(μ,σ)
  • Explore statistical functions available on the TI-89
  • Research methods for calculating cumulative distribution functions (CDF)
USEFUL FOR

Students, educators, and professionals in statistics or mathematics who require practical applications of the TI-89 for calculating probabilities in normal distributions.

I have a ti-89, does anyone know how to calculate percentages of the normal model on it? I am not sure what the function is, and using the table in the back of my book is a pain. The problem's I mean are, for example-
given N(80,5) what percentage of the data is above 92 given the information fits a normal probability distribution. note i don't have the 89 titanium so i may not have certain programs. Thank you

I don't see a function for that immediately. You can always just ask it to numerically evaluate the integral of the normal distribution from whatever value you want to some high value like 100.
