How to reflect light through a glass like those in holographic sight?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on replicating the functionality of holographic sights used in weapon aiming. Key to this technology is the use of a partially silvered mirror, which allows for a parallax-free sight by reflecting the red dot without scattering light elsewhere. The user plans to utilize a 3D printer for this project and has already found numerous DIY resources on YouTube that explain the basics of sight reflection. The user intends to share updates upon completion of their own replica.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of holographic sight technology
  • Familiarity with 3D printing techniques
  • Knowledge of optics, specifically reflection and refraction
  • Experience with DIY electronics and assembly
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties and applications of partially silvered mirrors
  • Explore advanced 3D printing materials suitable for optical components
  • Learn about parallax-free sight design principles
  • Watch DIY videos on YouTube related to building holographic sights
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for hobbyists, 3D printing enthusiasts, and individuals interested in optics and weapon sight technology.

Hello everyone,

Most of you know the Holographic Sights used on weapons to aim. I have a 3d printer and I will try to replicate one of them. I just wonder how the red dot/sight is reflected on the glass without making the light reflected anywhere else? It doesn't have to have exact same technology, I am here for suggestions about how to replicate that so I am open to new ideas.

Thank you for your answer. After I posted this thread I researched it and found out lots of DIY videos on youtube related to this topic. I understood the basics of the sight reflection and it's pretty easy. I will update this topic when I finish my own.
