A user attempted a three-day ramen diet to save money but found it unsustainable due to constant hunger, frequent bathroom trips, and discomfort. Others chimed in, emphasizing that an all-ramen diet lacks nutritional value and can lead to health issues. Suggestions for healthier, budget-friendly alternatives included pasta, beans, and oatmeal, which provide essential vitamins and minerals. The conversation also touched on the differences between instant ramen and authentic ramen found in restaurants, with many expressing a preference for the latter. Additionally, there were humorous exchanges about food habits and regional dialects regarding ramen pronunciation, but the main focus remained on the inadequacies of a ramen-only diet and the importance of balanced nutrition.

Jimmy, you have a Mitsuwa? I LOVE Mitsuwa? I thought they were only in California for some reason.
I had assumed that they were a Japanese chain and was about to joke that they also had a branch in Tokyo. However, I'm not sure they do, it looks like an American chain. They have one in Edgewater, NJ, another in Chicago, and 7 scattered about California. The one here used to be Yaohan before Mitsuwa took it over. Yaohan is definitely a Japanese chain. There are no restaurants I know of in this area that serve ramen here except Santouka, another restaurant in Ft. Lee, not as good, and a Korean joint near to where I live that has no idea what ramen might be, but serves it just the same.

There is a restaurant called Tampopo in Gardena California. I don't know what is on the menu. I know there used to be a restaurant of that name somewhere in California that served ramen, but it may not be this one. There is a restaurant with that name in Phila., but it is a typical Korean restaurant that has a few Japanese items on the menu. Ramen is not one of them, probably a good thing. Tampopo is a good name for a ramen shop because of the Japanese movie of the same name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampopo" ). A central part of the story was a woman (tampopo means dandelion but it was also the woman's name) trying to run a ramen shop and getting advice from ramen experts. I can't eat a bowl without striking the noodles with my chopsticks to show them that I love them.

Nah, on a clear day they can...Okay we're still pitying them.

Tribdog, my recommendation is to eat lots of canned baked beans and get lots and lots of fresh air.

Besides, how will the economy grow if we don't all cut back as much as we can?

No no, that's quite the opposite. Economy thrives when you are spending, not saving. How do you want those car makers in Detroit to earn their wages if you don't buy two cars a year?

@ Moonbear and tribdog

It makes me go to the bathroom when I eat a lot of it at a time too. I'm not sure why.
Digestive upsets are common among people with sensitivities to MSG in all its multitudinous forms. If you want to confirm (and if you are not not predisposed to serious reactions, like anaphylaxis) try a nice bowl of Lipton onion soup mix. If you get horribly runny (bowel) discharge and cramps after that, try to educate yourself on the many aliases under which MSG is added to prepared foods, because repeated exposures will lead to very serious reactions.

Come on! As a dump-enthusiast, I could spend the rest of my life mining Secaucus to see what New Yorkers throw away!

If you knew all the other crap that tribdog eats without dying, you'd have ruled that out like the rest of us.

Whats with male university students not knowing how to eat? I live with 3 guys and I swear they live on garlic bread, lucky charms and potato chips. It blows my mind! Never does a vegetable or fruit pass between their teeth. I don't know how they survive. Dont they have mothers to tell them how to eat? Mothers! Teach your boys that a 5 lb steak with a side of potato chips does not count as a meal!

I don't think many people eat fruits or vegetables ...
And, that diet isn't that worse. I can substitute lucky charms for my breakfast and lunch.
Both chips (particularly Doritos Cheese) and lucky charms are very nutritional!

Should read the Nutrition Facts on them.
