I know that ceramic fibers are used in sheets to protect the Space Staion from micrometeorites. There is talk of putting these sheets into bullet-proof vests and armor plating.

In industrial work, steel and harder metals are often machined by cutting devices with a ceramic blade, because ceramics are very hard and take a long time to wear out.
