Investigating Magnetic Train Forces: A Puzzling Inquiry

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the mechanics of magnetic trains, specifically the forces involved in their operation and how these forces affect velocity. Participants clarify that a magnetic train operates by balancing gravitational force with magnetic forces, allowing for constant velocity due to inertia when net forces are zero. The conversation also touches on the role of back-EMF in maintaining motion and the complexities of analyzing magnetic fields in such systems. Key insights include the importance of understanding both horizontal and vertical forces in magnetic train dynamics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic principles, specifically electromagnetic induction.
  • Knowledge of Newton's laws of motion, particularly inertia and force balance.
  • Familiarity with magnetic forces, including attraction and repulsion.
  • Basic concepts of circuit theory, including voltage and current flow in coils.
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the principles of electromagnetic induction and back-EMF in detail.
  • Research the mechanics of magnetic levitation trains (maglev) and their operational principles.
  • Learn how to calculate magnetic fields in coils and their effects on moving objects.
  • Investigate simulation tools for modeling electromagnetic systems and forces.

But it´s possible right? if i can calculate the magnetic field of the coil, i´d be able to ?

It is not impossible. It is a physical system, it is possible to simulate it. It is just a lot of effort to get it right.
