Studying Irish student studying in the UK?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on an Irish physics undergraduate seeking advice on UK universities for a Master's program, particularly in quantum physics and cosmology. Forum members recommend prestigious institutions like Imperial College, Oxford, and Cambridge, noting their strong reputations in the field. Other suggested universities include Durham, Bristol, and Warwick, emphasizing that the choice should align with specific research interests. The reliability of league tables from the Times and the Guardian is questioned, indicating a preference for personal recommendations. Ultimately, selecting a university should depend on the desired area of study within physics.

Hi, I'm a physics undergrad in the Republic of Ireland. I would very much like to study abroad for my Master's, most likely in the UK. I was wondering which university I should apply for and I'm not too sure about the reliability of the Times or the Guardian league tables. Could any forum-goers give any recommendations or advice? Thanks in advance.

What areas of physics are you interested in?

Well, I'm currently doing an internship in quantum physics relating to Bose-Einstein condensates, Gross-Pitaveskii equation etc. It's a fascinating subject, I really wouldn't mind studying it further. I wouldn't mind doing cosmology either.

Imperial and Oxbridge are world class universities. Durham is also good, along with Bristol and Warwick. But, it really depends on what you want to do in your masters.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
