SUMMARY

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is conventionally measured in milligrams per liter (mg/L), despite the possibility of expressing it in moles per liter (mol/L). The discussion confirms that while any concentration unit can be utilized, the standard reporting format remains mg/L. This standardization facilitates consistency and clarity in environmental and water quality assessments.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
  • Knowledge of concentration units in chemistry
  • Familiarity with water quality assessment methods
  • Basic principles of environmental science
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the standard methods for measuring COD in water quality testing
  • Explore the conversion between concentration units in chemical analysis
  • Learn about the implications of COD measurements in environmental regulations
  • Investigate alternative methods for assessing water quality beyond COD
USEFUL FOR

Environmental scientists, water quality analysts, and anyone involved in water treatment and pollution assessment will benefit from this discussion.

Can we measure COD in Mol/Litres?

Any concentration unit will do, as it is always possible to convert between concentrations. But by convention it is reported as mg/L.
