Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of conflict resolution, particularly through the lens of warfare and the role of technology, such as robotic warfare. Participants explore various perspectives on whether traditional forms of conflict, like kings fighting kings, or the absence of war altogether, represent better solutions to conflict.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants question whether having kings fight each other could be a more effective solution to war, suggesting it might be a tool of superpowers.
  • Others propose that avoiding war entirely would be a better solution, emphasizing the potential for economic and informational strategies to eliminate warfare.
  • A participant references Nikola Tesla's idea of robotic warfare as a preferable method, noting historical interest from the military.
  • One participant reflects on a past belief that technology could lead to a form of warfare that minimizes loss of life, although they express skepticism about this possibility now.
  • Another participant humorously mentions a hypothetical match-up between robotic machines in warfare.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express multiple competing views, with some advocating for traditional conflict resolution methods and others favoring the elimination of war through different means. The discussion remains unresolved, with no consensus on the best approach to conflict resolution.

Contextual Notes

Participants' arguments are influenced by personal experiences and historical perspectives, and there are unresolved assumptions regarding the feasibility and implications of proposed solutions.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be of interest to those exploring the philosophical and technological aspects of conflict resolution, as well as the implications of warfare in modern society.

Is this the ultimate tool of a super power, and a cowardly solution to conflict? would not (kings) fighting (kings) be be the best solution to war.

Would not having a war at all be a better solution to war?

Obviously you don't appreciate the thrill of robot warfare.

For sure it would.

If warfare is to be eliminated, it will happen through economics and information flow, not philosophy.

Nice one Ivan.

Nikola Tesla proposed robotic warfare as a better means of conducting war. He apparently made demonstrations of radio controlled robots to the military but they were not interested. Probably too expensive.

While in high school I gave a speech in which I argued that technology could lead to warfare in which no lives need to be lost. Of course I was looking at the world through the eyes of a young American who perceived the Soviet as the only real threat. But the idea was that once one side gained an advantage by destroying the other's defenses - say for example by destroying a space based LASER shield that guards against missile attack - the other side would simply surrender or they would face certain destruction. For many years I believed that day would come, but now it seems far less likely than before.

So round one is between the IDF's robotic bulldozer and the Australian's robotic haul truck.
