IF consciousness is a result of complex physical processes, and could thus be simulated by a hugely complex computer program (which should not be extremely controversial) -
WHAT IF the finite execution of the computer program would be presented, not with temporal steps (using the time dimension) but in spatial two or three dimensions, for example by drawing it graphically onto a really large (but not infinite) sheet of paper?
Would there be consciousness in 2D?
I am interested in whether consciousness is inseparably bound to time, or if it can exist where ever there is causality and enough complexity.
I guess the 2D "mind" would "feel" that it is flowing through "time", where it would be actually flowing through branches of the graph and thus cumulating a "memory" of past "events" and "decisions".
