SUMMARY

A fifth-year Chemical Engineering (Chem E) major is considering taking Environmental Science (ENV S) classes to prepare for a career in the Environmental Engineering industry. The discussion emphasizes the importance of enrolling in upper-level ENV S courses rather than basic ones, as foundational classes may lead to challenges with teaching assistants (TAs). Seeking faculty permission for advanced courses is recommended to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the field.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Chemical Engineering principles
  • Familiarity with Environmental Engineering concepts
  • Knowledge of academic course structures and prerequisites
  • Ability to communicate with faculty for course permissions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research advanced ENV S courses relevant to Environmental Engineering
  • Explore the relationship between Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering
  • Investigate faculty members' research in Environmental Engineering
  • Connect with industry professionals in the Environmental Engineering field
USEFUL FOR

Chemical Engineering students, Environmental Engineering aspirants, and anyone interested in integrating Environmental Science into their engineering education.

Hi all,

I'm a 5th year Chem E major in which I'm interested in going into the Environmental E industry after college. I figured that Chem E would be pretty closely related, and I'm wondering if it'll be useful to take some basic ENV S classes before I graduate despite it not really be engineering classes.

Thanks!

"Basic" level is going to set you up for "head-butting" with TAs; get permission from faculty for as far upper level as you can.
