SUMMARY

The Meade LX200 10" is being evaluated as a potential purchase for $1200, primarily for use with a CCD scope. Comparisons are made with the C11, which was purchased new for $2000. The LXD75-10AT f/4 Schmidt-Newtonian is also considered, priced at $1400, and noted for its suitability for CCD imaging. However, concerns are raised regarding the weight of Schmidt-Newtonians, which may require a more robust mount than the LXD75 can provide.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of CCD imaging techniques
  • Familiarity with telescope types, specifically Schmidt-Newtonians
  • Knowledge of telescope mounts and their weight capacities
  • Experience with astrophotography equipment
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Meade LX200 10" specifications and user reviews
  • Explore the LXD75-10AT f/4 Schmidt-Newtonian performance in astrophotography
  • Learn about suitable mounts for heavy telescopes
  • Investigate alternatives to the LXD75 for better weight handling
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, astrophotographers, and anyone considering the purchase of a CCD scope or telescope setup.

For just the OTA, I assume? New or used?

My C11 was $2000 new.

Scope sold for 1575, included cge mount. aarg.

Looking at LXD75-10AT f/4 schmidt-Newtonian. Appears well suited for CCD and attractively priced [$1400]. Any opinions on these?

Schmidt-Newtonians are HEAVY. You may need a beefy mount to handle it for photography. That mount (LXD75) can carry up to 30 lb and the OTA weighs a little over that. I think it is right on the edge for visual and probably not suitable for pics.

On a bigger mount you would love this scope, though.
