Does plasma transport oxygen?
Plasma does transport oxygen, but only a small fraction compared to hemoglobin. Approximately 98% of oxygen is carried by hemoglobin, while only about 2% is dissolved in plasma. Blood is composed of plasma, leukocytes, platelets, and erythrocytes, with plasma making up roughly 55% of blood volume. Plasma consists of water, ions, plasma proteins, hormones, and dissolved substances, including respiratory gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide.
