SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on connecting the Meade LX200 GPS telescope to a PC using compatible software. Users reported issues with "Starry Night Pro" version 4.5 and ACP3, as they did not support the LX200GPS model specifically. However, it was confirmed that Starry Night Pro can work with the LX200GPS due to its shared command set with the LX200. The potential issue may lie in the user's handmade RS-232 cable, which can be tested for functionality using an ohmmeter.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of RS-232 serial communication
  • Familiarity with Meade LX200 GPS telescope specifications
  • Knowledge of software installation and configuration for astronomy applications
  • Basic electronics skills for testing cables with an ohmmeter
NEXT STEPS
  • Research compatible software for Meade LX200 GPS, focusing on "Starry Night Pro" and its features
  • Learn how to properly test RS-232 cables using an ohmmeter
  • Explore additional telescope control software options that support LX200GPS
  • Investigate troubleshooting techniques for serial communication issues in astronomy setups
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, telescope operators, and anyone looking to connect Meade LX200 GPS telescopes to PCs for enhanced functionality.

Hi friends,
I'm a user of Meade's 12" LX200GPS and I was looking for the software to connect my telescope to my pc, I installed "Starry night pro" version 4.5 and ACP3 but they didn't work. Starry night only had LX200 & AutostarII in the list it supported but not LX200GPS.
Does anybody know any kind of downloadable software that can surely work with our case?
With respect to the fact that my RS-232 cable is handmade, can the cause of the problem be in the cable? How can I test it?

Thanks a lot

The LX200GPS uses the exact same command set as the LX200 -- it's essentially an industry standard. SNP can work with the LX200GPS just fine. Perhaps your cable is bad.

What is SNP?
Could you give me a link for it?

How can I be sure the Cable is bad?

SNP = Starry Night Pro.

Use an ohmmeter to verify that the cable is built properly.
