Is this a bug in Mathematica 11 ?

SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers on a potential bug in Mathematica 11, specifically regarding complex function integration. A user observed differing outputs for two similar inputs, differing by a factor of 2 when using version 11.1. Another user confirmed that using version 11.2 resolved the issue, suggesting that the discrepancy may be a bug fixed in the later version. Changing variable names also affected the output, indicating that variable context may play a role in the integration results.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of complex function integration
  • Familiarity with Mathematica 11.1 and 11.2
  • Knowledge of variable context settings in Mathematica
  • Basic troubleshooting skills in computational software
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore Mathematica's documentation on complex function integration
  • Learn about variable context settings in Mathematica
  • Investigate version differences between Mathematica 11.1 and 11.2
  • Review common bugs and fixes in Mathematica updates
USEFUL FOR

Mathematica users, mathematicians, and researchers involved in complex function analysis who are troubleshooting integration discrepancies.

I calculated a simple complex function integration using Mathematica 11.
As the screenshot shows, the only difference between the two inputs is that I set a = 1 in the second one.
However, the two outputs differ by a factor of 2.
What's wrong? Is this a bug?

Which version do you have? In 11.2, I get the following:

You can try and open a new notebook, set its default context to "unique to this notebook," and try and do only this integral.

Thanks. I opened a new notebook and did the settings you mentioned, but got the same wrong result.
However, to my surprise, I just changed the variable name from ε to b, and the output changed.
The version of mine is 11.1
Maybe it's a bug? and fixed in 11.2 :oldconfused:
