SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the 25th anniversary of continuous human presence aboard the International Space Station (ISS), celebrated on November 2, 2025. The website ISS in Real Time, created by NASA contractors Ben Feist and David Charney, offers an interactive experience showcasing daily life on the ISS over the past 25 years. The project was developed independently, reflecting the creators' passion for sharing knowledge. Additionally, there is concern regarding the future of the ISS, as plans exist to decommission it by crashing it into the ocean.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the International Space Station (ISS) and its significance in space exploration.
  • Familiarity with web development concepts, particularly in creating interactive experiences.
  • Knowledge of NASA's role in space missions and research.
  • Awareness of the implications of decommissioning space stations and their impact on scientific research.
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the features of ISS in Real Time to understand its interactive elements.
  • Research the history and milestones of the ISS over the past 25 years.
  • Learn about the technical aspects of web development used in creating interactive websites.
  • Investigate the future of the ISS and the scientific community's response to its planned decommissioning.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for space enthusiasts, web developers interested in interactive design, educators teaching about space exploration, and researchers concerned with the future of human presence in low Earth orbit.

Continuous manned presence on ISS has 25 year anniversary Nov 2, so what a wonderful way these guys have found to celebrate:

ISS in Real Time is an interactive experience that lets you explore the past 25 years onboard the International Space Station.

ISS in Real Time was built by Ben Feist and David Charney. We are both contractors at NASA, but we built this website independently on evenings and weekends just because we like to put good things on the Internet.

Nov 2, 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of continuous human presence in space. We thought it would be cool to show the world each and every day onboard.

Too bad they are planning on crashing it into the ocean in the not too distant future. Seems like such a waste.

Due to the constant never ending supply of "cool stuff" happening in Aerospace these days I'm creating this thread to consolidate posts every time something new comes along. Please feel free to add random information if its relevant. So to start things off here is the SpaceX Dragon launch coming up shortly, I'll be following up afterwards to see how it all goes. https://blogs.nasa.gov/spacex/
