SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the characteristics of lasers that enable their various applications, including holography, missile guidance, and medical surgery. Key properties identified include coherence, collimation, and intensity. Participants emphasize the importance of conducting independent research, suggesting searches for specific applications like "lasers for cutting metals." The conversation highlights the need for clarity in understanding laser properties, as different sources may present varying characteristics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of laser properties: coherence, collimation, intensity
  • Familiarity with laser applications in technology and medicine
  • Basic knowledge of optics and light behavior
  • Research skills for sourcing scientific literature
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "laser properties and their applications" for a comprehensive overview
  • Explore "coherence in laser technology" to understand its significance
  • Investigate "collimation techniques in laser systems" for practical insights
  • Study "intensity variations in laser applications" to grasp its impact on performance
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students, researchers, and professionals in fields such as optics, engineering, and medical technology who seek to deepen their understanding of laser characteristics and applications.

Homework Statement
Determine which characteristic of LASER is used
Relevant Equations
No equations in this problem
Can someone tell me about the characteristic of LASER that enables it from the following usage:
1-holography 2-orienting missiles 3-star wars 4-CD and DVD 5-medical surgery 6- telecommunications and fiber optics 7-LASER printer 8-cutting metals

Have you tried researching on the web yet? What if you searched for something like "lasers for cutting metals".

I tried and saw many books on this topic , but they differ about the characteristics and every book and website say a different characteristic.

That is my trial in order:
1- holography: coherence
2- orienting missiles: collimation
3- star wars: intensity
4- CD and DVD: collimaton
5- medical surgery: intensity
6- telecommunications and fiber optics: coherence and collimation
7- LASER printer: collimation
8- cutting metals: ??

We do not edit wrong answers for you here.

What-all are the properties of lasers that you are using? So far I think I see three: intensity, coherence and collimation. Are there any others? Where did you find those properties?
