Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant describes a problem where referencing figure 5.13 results in it displaying as figure 5.3 during compilation.
  • The same participant notes that references to figures with single digits work correctly, suggesting a specific issue with figures numbered greater than 10.
  • Another participant provides links to external resources that may assist in resolving LaTeX referencing issues.
  • A later reply indicates that the original issue was resolved due to a typo, which was identified through the provided resources.
  • One participant comments on the appropriateness of the forum location for the question, suggesting it was moved to a more suitable subforum.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that the issue was resolved, but the initial problem regarding figure referencing remains a point of interest for others who may encounter similar issues.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights the importance of careful attention to detail in LaTeX coding, particularly with figure labels and references, but does not delve into the underlying technical reasons for the issue.

Sorry if this is against the rules but found no good place to ask a quick LaTex question:

I'm writing a thesis and in chapter 5 I have >10 figures. When I use
Code:
\label{figureX}
on figure 5.13 and then
Code:
figure \ref{figureX}
in a paragraph, it compiles as "figure 5.3" instead of "figure 5.13".
All the other figures with single digits e.g. figure 5.7 work fine to reference. Somehow it eats the 1 in 5.13 and leaves it as 5.3

Yes I tried Google. Anyone know why this happens?
I appreciate it!

They did help. Thanks a lot, problem solved it was a typo on my part and those references made me realize it.

The "good place" here is the "Math & Science Software" subforum of "Computers & Technology." Being a subforum, it's easy to overlook, so you're forgiven. :smile:

I've moved this thread there.
