Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the implementation of LaTeX in blog entries on Physics Forums, including user experiences, technical issues, and limitations encountered with the new feature. Participants explore the functionality of LaTeX in blogs, particularly in relation to image rendering and preview capabilities.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested
  • Exploratory

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants express excitement about the inclusion of LaTeX in blogs, noting that it will reduce confusion in feedback posts regarding its functionality.
  • One user reports issues with the preview function not working correctly and mentions that newly added LaTeX replaces previously rendered images.
  • Another participant claims that their blog posts work fine with LaTeX, suggesting variability in user experiences.
  • There is a mention of a persistent issue where the "Click to see the LaTeX code for this image" appears instead of rendered images in certain contexts.
  • Some participants acknowledge awareness of the preview mode issue but assert that the images should appear correctly within the blog entries themselves.
  • One user notes a limitation on the number of LaTeX images allowed per blog post, questioning whether this limit is permanent or subject to change.
  • A later reply indicates that the limit on LaTeX images may be adjustable, with a participant offering to investigate the setting further.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express mixed experiences with the LaTeX feature, with some reporting successful implementation while others encounter issues. There is no consensus on the permanence of the image limit or the resolution of the rendering problems.

Contextual Notes

Participants note that certain technical issues, such as the overwriting of images and the appearance of LaTeX code instead of rendered images, may require further updates or modifications to resolve.

Yay! Now we don't have to read any more posts in feedback asking why LaTex isn't working in blogs. I know a LOT of people are going to enjoy that feature.

From my test, it's not quite correct.

Preview doesn't work.

After today's first attempt, it looked like posting LaTeX worked.
But when I replied to it with new LaTeX,
the newly-rendered image replaced the originally-rendered image.

Rob I just made two blog posts and it seems to work fine.

When I visited your blog (at 11:41am EST) and when I visit my blog, there is the
"Click to see the LaTeX code for this image"
in place of each rendered-image.

For "preview" mode yes we are aware, but if you go into the blog entry they should appear

Ok. I see now. Thanks.
I'll try a couple more things out.

If you visit your most recent blog entry, does it still look right?
It seems that the comment I made alters the appearance [the rendered-image] of your post.

ok the overwriting is fixed, but the broken images in blog list can't be fixed unfortunately without file modification. There will be a new blog update soon that will hopefully allow us to get that working.

Hi

Great to see Latex is now included in blogs. One thing I've noticed is the limit for images seems to apply to Latex also which limits the number of latex images to 4 per blog. Is this permanent or something that will change in the near future.

regards
Steve

I'll look into this setting and bump it up.
