Matlab toolboxes

What is a matlab toolbox? Can we rebuild them? Can not we use matlab effectively if we do not have toolboxes? Are there any pre-installed toolboxes when we install matlab? How can we see if they are installed or not by using or not using matlab. I have never used a toolbox so I do not know whether they are very useful or not.

toolboxes are ad-don's for Matlab, such as Curve fitting, Statistics, etc... If you have the student version, you get half a dozen or so tool boxes with your distribution. You don't need them, but they are handy and save you time in writing your own functions. Usually, you can find out which tool boxes are installed by opening up the help file, they will be listed.

Thank you but for example, to do an application I need to use signal processing toolbox and it seems in the help file but how can I use it while trying that application?

Read the help file, Matlab has the best online documentation of any commercial program I have ever used. The examples will tell you how to get going.
