The maximum temperature a 2" NPT pipe thread can withstand largely depends on the material of the pipe rather than the threading itself. Stainless steel pipes can handle significantly higher temperatures compared to carbon steel pipes, which have lower temperature ratings. Users are encouraged to consult material-specific charts to determine the exact maximum temperature limits. The discussion emphasizes the importance of considering the pipe's construction material when assessing performance under high-temperature conditions. Understanding these factors is crucial for safe and effective piping in applications involving hot gases.

Maximum Temp. that a 2" NPT (Pipe Thread) can withstand.

Hello Forum
I have a question related to Pipe threads. Does anybody know the maximum temp. a NPT Thread i.e,( National Pipe Thread) can withstand on a 2" piping without compromising its performance. It has 11-1/2 TPI (Threads Per inch)
Any references, vendors, personal experiences that can help. The pipe carries 'hot gas' in it.

Thanks in advance

I would say it depends more on the material than the fact that the material is threaded.

It depends on the material of construction of the pipe...

Is it stainless steel? Temp rating will be high

Carbon Steel? It will be a lot lower.

Then you can look up a chart that will tell you the max temperature rating.

Had my central air system checked when it sortta wasn't working. I guess I hadn't replaced the filter. Guy suggested I might want to get a UV filter accessory. He said it would "kill bugs and particulates". I know UV can kill the former, not sure how he thinks it's gonna murder the latter. Now I'm finding out there's more than one type of UV filter: one for the air flow and one for the coil. He was suggesting we might get one for the air flow, but now we'll have to change the bulb...
