Measuring Mass per Unit Area of a Soft Blanket

I'm doing a question involving the mass of a blanket ...
I just need to know the following :

could somebody please tell me :

what it means by mass per unit area ?

and for a blanket, how is the mass/unit area measured because the blanket is soft ?

Ask yourself, what is the mass of the blanket? What is the Area of the blanket? Can you think of a way to get the mass per unit area? It does not matter if the blanket is hard or soft, you would do the same thing to get the mass per unit area of a piece of a thin wood.

Generally to get the mass of something you weigh it, convert lbs to Kg you have the mass. Measure the blanket to find its area.

compute

\frac {Mass} {Area} to get mass per unit area.

"Softness" simply does not enter into it.
