SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on selecting a suitable motor for a robotic therapeutic suit for the legs, emphasizing the need for durability against resistive forces during operation. Participants suggest considering electric motors with appropriate controllers to prevent overload, as well as exploring pneumatic or hydraulic options. The use of gears is also mentioned as a potential solution to enhance motor performance. Additionally, implementing a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) or over-current cut-out is recommended for safety against rare overload incidents.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electric motor specifications and controllers
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Familiarity with gear mechanisms and their applications
  • Basic electrical safety measures, including the use of MCBs
NEXT STEPS
  • Research electric motor controllers compatible with high-torque applications
  • Explore pneumatic systems for robotic applications
  • Investigate hydraulic motor options for resistive force management
  • Learn about gear ratios and their impact on motor performance
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, robotics researchers, and developers working on therapeutic devices or rehabilitation technologies will benefit from this discussion.

we are in need of a suitable motor that can be used for our thesis. We need a motor that will not be destroyed even though we apply a resistive force to the rotation of the motor. Do we need to apply gears? thanks! :D

Have you looked into pneumatics or hyrdraulics?

For an electric motor you could use a controller/etc to make sure it doesn't get overloaded.

If overloading is only a rare accident, then you could use something like an MCB or other over-current cut-out.
