I just heard about this on Facebook.

CONGRATULATE YOSHINORI OHSUMI, awarded the 2016 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine.
"for his discoveries of mechanisms for autophagy"

I have no idea what an "autophagy" is. But if someone wins a Nobel Prize for it, I should probably google that.
    After my nap of course.

    Upcoming schedule:
    04 Oct: Physics
    05 Oct: Chemistry
    07 Oct: Peace
    10 Oct: Economic Sciences
    later__: Literature

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded today, see

It was a pleasant surprise for me to see that one of the laureates is a Dutchman working in Groningen .

I could not find a thread on this yet (did I overlook it?) so perhaps one of the "chemically inclined" mentors (@DrClaude, @Borek, @Chestermiller,...) would like to start one? (Chemistry is well outside my domain of expertise.)
