SUMMARY

The typical number of general electives required for a Bachelor's degree in Physics varies based on the total credit hours mandated by the institution. The discussion highlights that 18 art credits are being accepted for the Physics Transfer program at the associate level, with an expectation that 9 credits may transfer towards the Bachelor's degree. The acceptance of these credits towards general education requirements, including potential fine arts requirements, is contingent upon the specific policies of the receiving institution. Ultimately, the calculation for general elective credits involves subtracting the required general education and major-specific credits from the total degree requirements.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of credit hour requirements for Bachelor's degrees
  • Familiarity with general education requirements in higher education
  • Knowledge of transfer credit policies between colleges
  • Awareness of major-specific course requirements in Physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specific credit hour requirements for a Bachelor's degree in Physics at various institutions
  • Investigate the general education requirements and fine arts credits accepted by local colleges
  • Learn about transfer credit evaluation processes and policies
  • Consult academic advisors for personalized guidance on credit transfers
USEFUL FOR

Students transferring to a Bachelor's program in Physics, academic advisors, and individuals navigating credit transfer processes in higher education.

How many general electives are typical for a bachelors degree in Physics?

They are accepting 18 of my art credits for the Physics Transfer program at the associates level. I would like to know how many credits will count towards a bachelors. I am guessing 9 credits...I am trying to get an appointment with an adviser at a local state college.

Some of those credits might be accepted towards the general education requirements at the "new" college. (Some schools have a "fine arts" requirement.) As for general elective credit, it probably depends on (a) how many hours they require in total for a bachelor's degree, minus (b) how many hours they require for general education requirements, minus (c) how many hours are required for the physics major.
