Off-Road Snorkel head direction, does it matter?

I know very little about physics, but I have a question.

What are the effects of turning an off road snorkel head backwards (facing the rear of the vehicle)?

We on the FJ Cruiser forums are debating, and I thought I would ask the experts :)

Some of the concerns/debates include: reduced air flow, creating a vacuum, reduced engine performance, intake of snow/water/dust.

Your speeds are not high enough to create any but marginal dynamic effects. FOD ingestion would seem the most significant.
