Payload dimension comparison between launch vehicles?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the maximum payload dimensions of various launch vehicles, specifically the Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, and the Space Shuttle. Users recommend visiting the SpaceX website for detailed diagrams of payload fairings, which include maximum sizes and weights. Additionally, the Space Shuttle's bay dimensions are confirmed to be 60 x 15 feet with a maximum weight capacity of 55,250 pounds, as listed on Wikipedia. This information is essential for understanding payload capabilities in space missions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of payload dimensions in aerospace engineering
  • Familiarity with the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy specifications
  • Knowledge of the Space Shuttle's design and capabilities
  • Ability to navigate aerospace company websites for technical data
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Falcon 9 payload fairing dimensions on www.spacex.com
  • Examine the specifications of Falcon Heavy payload capabilities
  • Review the Space Shuttle's technical documentation on Wikipedia
  • Explore comparative analyses of launch vehicle payload capacities

Hey guys,

Does anyone have a list of the maximum dimensions of objects that can be carried in various launch vehicles, eg Falcon 9/Falcon Heavy, space shuttle etc? It would be much appreciated!

I haven't seen a comparative table or anything, although it is most likely out there. Each of the company's websites likely list the data. For example, www.spacex.com has a diagram of the payload fairing with max. sizes and weights near the bottom of every page associated with a particular model. Click on the menu on the left of the home page. and the Shuttle dimensions/weights are on Wikipedia--bay accommodation is 60 x 15 feet and max. weight is 55,250 pounds. Hope that helps a bit.

Ah, that's a very useful place to start, thanks very much!
