Perpetual machine by using free energy of magnets Possible?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of creating a perpetual motion machine using magnets and the concept of free energy associated with them. Participants explore the implications of such a machine in relation to the laws of thermodynamics, particularly the first law.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions whether magnets possess free energy and if the proposed machine could operate, seeking reasons for its potential failure.
  • Another participant asserts that the machine will not work, stating that magnets do not possess energy and can only provide force when initially pushed.
  • A third participant comments on the myth of perpetual motion, suggesting that a perfect vacuum and perfect bearings would be necessary for such a machine, and raises concerns about the alignment of magnets affecting motion.
  • A later post reiterates the initial questions about magnets and free energy, while also noting that discussions on perpetual motion machines (PMMs) are prohibited on the forum, indicating a lack of openness to debate on this topic.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that the proposed machine is unlikely to work, with multiple viewpoints on the reasons why. However, the discussion remains unresolved regarding the specifics of magnet energy and the implications of perpetual motion.

Contextual Notes

The discussion touches on the limitations of the concepts presented, including assumptions about the nature of magnets and the conditions required for perpetual motion, which are not fully explored or defined.

Does magnets posses free energy?
Does the machine shown in image will run?

If no...give reason...

I know it seems to voilate 1st law of thermodaynamics...But why it voilates it?

No it won't work.

Reason: magnets don't possesses energy. At best they act like springs; providing a force but only if you push first.

Perpetual motion is a myth that probably will never die.

First of all you'll need a perfect vacuum.

Secondly you'll need perfect bearings to mount the spindle onto.

Thirdly think about what happens when the magnets that are on the rotating arms line up with the stationary magnets around the outside.

PMMs are on the list of banned subjects at the Rules link at the top of the page. Thread is closed.

Perpetual motion and "free energy" discussions
Search PF and you will find many threads that have been closed in a number of forums. As for S&D, any claim of this nature would be reproducible and/or testable by the scientific community; hence there is no need for debate.
