PF Electrons, quarks, planets, etc. How does it work?

Click For Summary
The discussion revolves around a playful ranking system on the PF forum where members are categorized as electrons, quarks, and other entities based on their participation and trophy points. This classification system, established about 15 years ago, is viewed as a lighthearted and somewhat silly aspect of the community. Some members appreciate the humor it brings, while others express concern about potential negative self-perceptions tied to these titles. Overall, the system serves as a fun way to engage users and enhance their experience on the forum. The conversation highlights the balance between enjoyment and the potential for misinterpretation of these playful labels.

I have noticed that some individuals here at PF are electrons, some quarks others are various other kinds of entities. I sense that it is some kind ranking system? How does it work and what is the full system of classification?

It's something cute we did maybe 15 years ago. As you participate more and more, your "size" will increase.

Some people like silly. I don't mind, some silliness can push you through a bad day. "Ok, i'm not that usless, i'm a PF mountain!"

On a second thought, that can also turn bad, "I'm so fat that even PF calls me a mountain".

I have some solemn news to report. Many in the community had been wondering where the prolific @Vanadium 50 has been. V50 hasn't posted a message in nearly a year. After months of questioning, the mentor group dug in and did some investigation and we're confident V50 passed away early this year. Few members need reminding what kind of force @Vanadium 50 was for the community and physics. A mentor for 5+ years and an annual award winner seemingly every other year. He has a top 10 post count...
