SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the decision between pursuing a single honours in Physics or a joint honours in Mathematics and Physics, with the option of Applied Mathematics and Physics. Participants emphasize the importance of initial exposure to physics to inform the decision. A common recommendation is to enroll in the joint honours program, allowing flexibility to drop one subject later if necessary.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of undergraduate course structures
  • Familiarity with the concepts of Physics and Mathematics
  • Awareness of the implications of joint versus single honours degrees
  • Knowledge of Applied Mathematics as a discipline
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the curriculum differences between single honours Physics and joint honours Mathematics and Physics
  • Explore introductory Physics courses to gauge interest
  • Investigate career paths associated with both Physics and Mathematics degrees
  • Review student testimonials or forums discussing experiences in Applied Mathematics and Physics
USEFUL FOR

Prospective college students, academic advisors, and anyone considering a degree in Physics or Mathematics seeking clarity on course selection and career implications.

Hey I am starting college in september and i can change my course up until the end of this month. I am not decided on whether i should do a single honours in physics or a joint honours in maths and phyics (Applied maths and phyics is also an option) so I am just looking for any advice that anyone has in relation to these types of courses in general
any help would be much appreciated. Cheers :)

It depends on what you want to do, and you don't really know that till you have studied a bit of physics first. An easy one is to try to do the double, you can always quit one of them later if it turns out that it is too rough or that you aren't really interested in it.
