The discussion focuses on finding books that contain questions typical of high school physics contests. Recommendations include "Flying Circus of Physics" by Walker and "Thinking Physics" by Epstein, although there is concern that these may contain more conceptual questions rather than rigorous calculations. The conversation also references resources from the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) and the International Physics Olympiad, which may offer more challenging problems, though some participants feel these might be too advanced for their needs. A specific example of a problem set is shared to illustrate the type of questions being sought. Overall, the emphasis is on identifying accessible yet challenging physics problems suitable for high school students preparing for contests.

Is there any book with questions that would typically appear on a physics contest? I'm talking about high school physics here.

Are those hand waving questions or is there a good portion of calculations?

robphy, here is a sample of the kind of questions I'm looking for:

the Olympiads might be to intensive for the level I'm looking for but I'll look into it.

TL;DR: Jackson or Zangwill for Electrodynamics? Hi, I want to learn ultrafast optics and I am interested in condensed matter physics, ie using ultrafast optics in condensed matter systems. However, before I get onto ultrafast optics I need to improve my electrodynamics knowledge. Should I study Jackson or Zangwill for Electrodynamics? My level at the moment is Griffiths. Given my interest in ultrafast optics in condensed matter, I am not sure which book is better suited for me. If...
