In summary, the UK has officially left the EU and there is currently uncertainty about how foreign scientists will be affected when applying for jobs at UK universities and companies. The selection process may be modified and there may be difficulties obtaining visas for cooperation and staffing purposes. The UK government has introduced a global talent visa, but the details are still unclear.

Hi.

UK has officially left the EU.

I was wondering what kind of difficulties you think a foreigner scientist could face now while applying for jobs at UK universities or UK companies.

Does Brexit modify the selecton process or everything stays the same?

Thank you.

Fact is: nobody knows!

As of today, we don't have any plan how to deal with former EU foreigners. At universities it's even worse, because science means cooperation, which affects staffing as well as budgeting of countless projects. All of a sudden hundreds if not thousands of people will need a visa, and a tourist visa won't do. Universities don't have that information either - no one does.

Could Brexit lead to a brain drain of non-British scientists leaving the UK?

Some experts believe that Brexit could lead to a brain drain of non-British scientists leaving the UK for other countries with more favorable research and funding opportunities. This could have a negative impact on the diversity and talent pool of the UK's scientific community.

How will Brexit affect the overall research environment for non-British scientists in the UK?

The uncertainty and potential changes caused by Brexit may create a less welcoming and stable research environment for non-British scientists in the UK. This could make it more difficult for them to secure funding, collaborate with colleagues, and plan for the future.
