I want to test the accuracy a linear displacement sensor (Hall effect) that I have, but I'm not sure what to measure it against. The sensors are made to measure with a resolution of 10μm. My initial thought was to use a drill press to move up and down, but I don't think I know of any that are programmable/ can move precisely. I also thought of machining but I don't have machining tools on hand. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

Borrow a micrometer and put the sensor on the fixed anvil .

Ditto caliper gauge .

drill press is not accurate enough. there are many digital scales and read heads available pretty cheap.
renishaw is one company, heidenhein is another. Mitutoyo has many as well.many resolve to 1/10 micron resolution. you still need true measurement of displacement and the gage block is reliable and trusted. once you read up on repeatabilty and can do a true R&R study you can know uncertainty of your " system" and its capability.
