Projectile Motion without the Angle

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on solving projectile motion problems without knowing the launch angle. The user initially struggles with calculating the trajectory given only the initial velocity and distance traveled. However, they successfully resolve the issue by recalling fundamental trigonometric identities that facilitate the calculations. This highlights the importance of understanding basic trigonometry in physics applications.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic projectile motion concepts
  • Familiarity with initial velocity and distance in motion equations
  • Knowledge of trigonometric identities and their applications
  • Basic algebra skills for solving equations
NEXT STEPS
  • Review projectile motion equations, focusing on horizontal and vertical components
  • Study trigonometric identities relevant to physics problems
  • Practice solving projectile motion problems with varying initial conditions
  • Explore simulation tools for visualizing projectile motion
USEFUL FOR

Students studying physics, educators teaching projectile motion concepts, and anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of trigonometry in real-world applications.

Homework Statement

Hi guys, I'm trying to start from scratch on figuring out the projectile motion problem. But I think I've hit a roadblock. I am trying to solve a problem where I gave myself initial velocity and how far the object travels, but I can't seem to find a way to solve this without knowing the angle that the object was fired at.

The Attempt at a Solution

I've been scribbling away at this for about an hour and I don't think I've really gotten anywhere.
