SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding a chemical to dissolve scotch tape adhesive without damaging GaN IC die. Acetone is identified as an effective solvent that weakens or dissolves many adhesives, while hexane is also suggested as a viable option. Users recommend soaking the tape in acetone overnight for optimal results. These methods provide a practical solution for safely removing adhesive without harming sensitive components.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of chemical solvents and their properties
  • Familiarity with GaN (Gallium Nitride) semiconductor materials
  • Knowledge of adhesive types and their chemical compositions
  • Basic laboratory safety practices when handling chemicals
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the effectiveness of acetone in dissolving various adhesives
  • Explore the properties and applications of hexane as a solvent
  • Investigate alternative solvents for adhesive removal that are safe for electronic components
  • Learn about proper techniques for handling and removing delicate IC die from substrates
USEFUL FOR

Electronics engineers, materials scientists, and anyone involved in the handling or assembly of semiconductor devices who needs to safely remove adhesive materials.

I put few IC die (GaN grown on Si ) in small plastic case on top of scotch tape so that it can't movie . Now I it firmly stuck on it. I try to move it physically by a niddle and twister and already broke one. I need a chemical which will dissolve the tape including adhesive but not the die. Would you please

So what's the proper chemical to dissolve/decompose adhesive tape?

Thanks for your help.
