Putting a quote in academic statement

Would it be over the top to put in a relevant quote from my favorite mathematician/scientist at the beginning of my academic statement? (The school only has one statement requirement).

I think that's okay, but you need to tie what you say in your statement to it in a meaningful way.

I wouldn't. It's very middle school, and it's unlikely to be relevant - why are you interested in attending that school.

I think it's 'cheesy' and vacuous.
