Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the concept of Dickson dips in spectroscopy, exploring its relation to quantum numbers and potential connections to classical mechanics. The scope includes theoretical aspects of spectroscopy and its underlying principles.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the nature of Dickson dips in spectroscopy.
  • Another participant expresses unfamiliarity with the term but provides a link to a resource related to atomic spectroscopy.
  • A participant suggests that Dickson dips are related to changes in quantum numbers for certain molecules.
  • Another participant proposes a connection to Monodromy in classical mechanics as a potential explanation.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the definition or implications of Dickson dips, with multiple competing views presented regarding its relevance to quantum numbers and classical mechanics.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks detailed definitions and assumptions regarding Dickson dips, and the relationship between the proposed concepts remains unresolved.

Anyone here know about dickson dips in spectroscopy?

Physics news on Phys.org
Never heard of it.
I know of http://chsfpc5.chem.ncsu.edu/~franzen/CH795Z/ps/2002/lecture/lecture17/atomic/atomic.html" ;) )

Spectroscopy is a big field.. got any hints from context?

Has to do with quantum numbers changing with certain molecules.

It has to do with Monodromy in classical mechanics.
