Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenge of recharging a 9-volt rechargeable battery within a device without affecting the electronics connected to it. Participants explore various methods to achieve this while maintaining the functionality of the device during the charging process.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Proposed approaches, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests adding a switch to disconnect the battery output from the circuit while charging.
  • Another proposes using a switching jack that would remove the battery's connection to the circuit when the charger is plugged in.
  • A later reply provides a visual reference for a switch that opens when the charger plug is inserted, indicating that such components are commonly available.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple approaches to the problem, but there is no consensus on a single solution. Various methods are proposed, indicating differing opinions on the best way to implement the charging mechanism.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about the device's circuitry and the specific requirements for the charging mechanism are not fully detailed, which may affect the applicability of the proposed solutions.

I have a device that I am working on and am stumped.
This device runs off of a 9 volt rechargeable battery that is difficult to access to recharge.
I would like to retrofit a plug into the device that would allow me to charge the batt without the electronics down line of the batt getting any power while charging.
This would keep me from having to remove the batt every time I need to charge it.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

just add a switch that switches the battery output from the circuit to the recharger.

Use a switching jack to remove the battery's connection to the circuit when the charger is plugged in.

When the charger plug is inserted the switch is opened. You can find them in most appropriate jack types.
