TL;DR
I brought contaminated items into the kitchen
I should know better. Really I should. But I did it.... again.

While refining silver from various scrap, some of the jars "migrated" into the kitchen. I thought they were empty, and I thought I'd cleaned the bottoms. Now there are purple spots on the kitchen counters.

Is there a method to removing silver stains from countertops?

Is this a stone counter top or something else?
And, of course, you are looking for a solution short of replacing the counter.

The black stains might be silver halides, in which case sodium thiosulfate will dissolve them. As silver is very toxic, to both people and the environment, be careful not to bring contaminated items into a kitchen.
