TL;DR
problem checking bacground on this;Compatible with HD44780 1602 16x2 Serial LCD White Character Blue Backlight Display Board 3.3V 5V Compatible with Arduino
Hellol I have pins for this; apologies for subseqquent bold; bold option is not responsive.

Compatible with HD44780 1602 16x2 Serial LCD White Character Blue Backlight Display Board 3.3V 5V , Using Arduino Uno.

15 and 16 connected; 16 to gnd via a 220ohm resistor and 16 to 5v. Mtest meter reads 5v but the screen is not illuminating.

It had previously been functional. Is any other test possible or is i that the module has become faulty?

Thanks
Martyn

PS: mentor adjusted to remove bold text.

It wasn’t bold tagged it was bracketed by [ head ] tags and that’s why it didn't unbold.

Can you link to the display's datasheet?

Did anything happen as part of it starting to not work? Did it get dropped or plugged in wrong or anything else like that? Is it only the backlight that is not working (can you see dim characters without the backlight?)?

i don't know of anything untoward. Originally just the screen functioned with no characters then it just gave up. Am I correct in believing that the wiring previously described is such that the screen should illuminate?
Thanks
Martyn

Ah got the wiring messed up, ok now; apologies for having wasted your time; thanks for your patience!
