SUMMARY

Xiameter Silicone Fluids, specifically polydimethylsiloxane fluids, can be utilized for sealing concrete, but their effectiveness is contingent upon the porosity of the concrete. Siloxane and silane compounds serve as water-repellant pore blockers, reducing oil staining and paint penetration. However, high-quality concrete with minimal porosity will see limited benefits from these compounds. Safety precautions are essential during application due to the toxicity of the liquids, especially in indoor environments.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of siloxane and silane chemical properties
  • Knowledge of concrete porosity and its implications
  • Familiarity with safety protocols for handling toxic substances
  • Basic principles of water repellency in construction materials
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the application techniques for siloxane and silane sealants
  • Explore the differences between siloxane and silane compounds in construction
  • Investigate safety measures for using toxic construction materials
  • Learn about the effects of concrete porosity on sealing effectiveness
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for construction professionals, building material suppliers, and anyone involved in concrete sealing and maintenance, particularly those considering the use of silicone-based products.

Hi there, I was wondering if "www.xiameter.com/en/ExploreSilicones/Silicone-Fluids/Pages/polydimethylsiloxane-fluids.aspx"[/URL] can be used to seal concrete?

Depends upon the concrete.
Siloxane and silane compounds are water repellant pore blockers. Since they enter the pores and obstruct other molecules entry they also help reduce oil staining or paint penetration.
However really good concrete has no pores so they have little effect.
Since they are colourless they are particularly useful on more porous building materials like brickwork or blockwork.

The liquids are somewhat toxic so stringent safety precautions need to be taken on application, particularly indoors.
