Mostly they value people who will - by previous example or by displayed qualities - likely fit in.
Education is just one point.

I remember it described as being someone they'd have no trouble spending time with while you're both waiting to take a flight.

Or, for a cash flow, just do some tutoring in the meantime, without getting a degree. Id suspect most potential students wouldn't shun you from not having a degree in teaching ESL. Education degrees are not often taken seriously .

I tried to emphasize "credential"; but not "degree". In some prospective positions, license-getting has specified course credits requirements.

WWGD, you have addressed many of the post replies at great length, but the OP is long gone. BTW, note that he/she kept talking about companies, interviewers, job market, etc. but never once looked at their interview performance or addressed any in my post. I guess it’s easy to blame the world and hard to look at oneself.
