Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the concept of sound modulation in relation to hypnosis, specifically exploring the idea of subliminal messages and their potential effectiveness. Participants examine the physics behind modulating sounds to influence subconscious perception, while also referencing anecdotal experiences and existing literature on the topic.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant mentions the idea of modulating words into background noises or ultrasound to influence the subconscious without conscious interpretation, claiming it is used for hypnosis.
  • Another participant suggests searching for 'subliminal messages' and notes that such messages have been outlawed in advertisements.
  • A participant expresses skepticism about the effectiveness of traditional subliminal messaging, sharing a personal experience of subconsciously recalling a song without realizing its source.
  • There is a mention of a lack of scientific descriptions regarding how these sound modulation systems work.
  • A participant references a book titled 'Subliminal Seduction' as a source of information on the subject, although they express uncertainty about its value.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants exhibit a mix of curiosity and skepticism regarding the effectiveness of subliminal messages and sound modulation techniques. There is no consensus on the validity or scientific backing of these methods, and multiple viewpoints remain present in the discussion.

Contextual Notes

Participants note the absence of scientific descriptions and proven methods related to sound modulation for hypnosis, indicating a gap in understanding and evidence in the field.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be of interest to individuals exploring the intersection of sound, psychology, and hypnosis, as well as those curious about the scientific basis of subliminal messaging.

Well. I know it aint physics. I am looking at the physics part of it.
I heared something about modulating words into background noises or ultrasound in such manner that the subconscience hears them but conscience doesn't interpret them into words.
Claimed to be used for hypnosis.

Mythbusters tried it. :)

At this point I have my hands on a lot of recording software, microphones and stuff like that at work.

DID YOU HEAR anything about such devices?
Do you know a method that is proven to work to some degree?

I am thinking of what to modulate sound into.
Thanks.

Try Googling 'subliminal messages'. Here's a start...

By the way, such messages were outlawed for use in advertisements.

aint doing this in advertisement
thanks for giving me a keyword to look for

Found no scientific descriptions of how those systems actually work.

I'm not too convinced by the traditional view of 'subliminal messages'.

It is true that you can work suggestions and manipulate surroundings to have a limited control over poeple.

For example, When other people listen to the radio and a song is on, I won't be listening to it and wouldn't be able to tell you what was playing if you asked me, but minutes to hours later that day I will start humming the song without realising it. I won't even realize why I have the song in my head.

It's that sort of thing that works with people, this backwards speech or ultra sound I am not convinced works.
