Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around selecting appropriate low sensitivity sound sensors for monitoring noise generated by a motor in a mechanical system. Participants explore various sensor types, including sound, pressure, and vibration sensors, in the context of minimizing noise from mechanical interactions.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant is seeking advice on whether to use sound sensors, pressure sensors, or vibration sensors to address low-level noise from a motor interacting with mechanical parts.
  • Another participant mentions traditional methods used by engineers, such as stethoscopes and listening techniques, as a potential alternative to modern sensors.
  • A request for modern, sensible sound sensor options is made, indicating a desire for updated technology.
  • A suggestion is made to consider electronic engine stethoscopes, with links provided to specific products available online.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants have not reached a consensus on the best type of sensor to use, with various suggestions and traditional methods being discussed without a clear agreement on a single approach.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not clarify the specific requirements or limitations of the sensors needed, such as sensitivity thresholds or environmental factors affecting sensor performance.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in noise reduction in mechanical systems, engineers exploring sensor technology, and those looking for modern alternatives to traditional diagnostic methods may find this discussion relevant.

I am doing a module to adjust the noise in a motor such that motor inside piston stroke is touching some mechanical part leads to small noise. I would like to adjust these by using sound sensoror presser or vibration sensors. I don't know which one to use in that sistuation but my guess is sound sensor. can some help me to choose sensor and company name. Note, the sound is very low(noise) so that the options shoud be consider this.
Hope some will give suggestions.

Old fashioned engineers (mechanics) used a stethoscope and their own ears for this.

Any modern ideas that can be smart. I am looking for sensible sound sensor...
