Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around troubleshooting sound issues in Windows 8.1, specifically focusing on problems with audio input and output, as well as error messages related to the audio service. Participants explore potential causes and solutions related to driver issues and system upgrades.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant reports an error message indicating "The Audio Service is not running" and notes that the system does not recognize any audio devices despite them being listed in the device manager.
  • Another participant suggests that the audio driver may be corrupted and recommends reinstalling it or considering an upgrade to Windows 10.
  • A later reply expresses skepticism about the suggestion to upgrade, comparing the statement about Windows 10 to a controversial historical analogy, indicating a strong opinion about the quality of Windows 8.1.
  • Another participant reiterates the sentiment that if someone misses Windows 7, they should consider upgrading.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing opinions on the quality of Windows 8.1 compared to other versions, and while some suggest practical solutions, there is no consensus on the best course of action for resolving the sound issues.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not provide detailed technical specifications or specific steps taken to troubleshoot beyond general suggestions, leaving some assumptions and conditions unresolved.

Hi All,
I am having trouble with both sound input and output in windows 8.1. Error message is " The Audio Service is not running". I eventually find out the system believes there are neither audio input nor output devices installed. Still, when I go to device manager, the audio system is clearly listed there, the microphone, speakers and mixers are functioning correctly, so is the audio controller , all according to device manager . I checked that the drivers are updated, but still no sound. I have gone over a few You Tube videos with no success.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Seems the driver is corrupted? Try to reinstall. Maybe think about updating to Win10. It's loads better than 8.1

Thank you. Sadly saying something is better than Win 8.1 is sort of like saying someone is nicer than Hitler.

If you miss 7 then upgrade.
