SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on finding a suitable adhesive or paint that is transparent, has a refractive index (RI) less than 1.6, can be easily peeled off from glass, and remains stable after drying. Clear epoxy resin, with an RI of approximately 1.5, is recommended as a viable option. Additionally, the clear part of a two-part epoxy is suggested for use as optical grease. Users may also need to consider using a film or release agent when applying these substances to glass surfaces.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of refractive index and its significance in optical applications
  • Familiarity with epoxy resin properties and applications
  • Knowledge of optical coatings and adhesives
  • Experience with casting techniques and release agents
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties and applications of clear epoxy resin
  • Explore the use of two-part epoxy as optical grease
  • Learn about different types of release agents suitable for glass surfaces
  • Investigate optical coating techniques for thin film applications
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for materials scientists, optical engineers, and anyone involved in adhesive applications or optical device manufacturing.

Hi !

Can you recommend me a glue or paint or other chemical substance with the following properties:
- should be transparent
-should have a refr. index less than 1.6
-could be easily peeled off from glass
- should not dissolve in the same substance after drying (I want to make a thin film, peel it off and then stick it with the same substance to an optical device, but the film should not destroy)
-it is preferably but not mandatory that it should not dissolve in water

Thank you!

You may need to use a film or release agent when casting on a glass surface.
