Unable to display LaTeX

Homework Statement: Not applicable. I'm asking about a technical problem with the PhysicsForums software
Relevant Equations: \left(-2+2 \,\mathrm{I}\right)^{\frac{1}{3}}

I posted the LaTeX code for an expression in the "relevant equations" and "attempt at a solution" boxes. When I'm in the "attempt at a solution" box and I click "Preview," I do not see a preview of the expression properly displayed, only the code. After I post this message, the expression may be properly displayed, but I need to use the preview feature to clean up my code if necessary before posting. I am using an HP Envy x360 Laptop and Windows 11 Home version 24H2. Any thoughts how to fix this problem?

P.S. I mentioned this problem previously and someone said I need to refresh the page. But when I hit "refresh," it erases everything.

Works for me as long as I enclose the LaTeX in double-$ delimiters front and back.

Yes! I was missing the double $ delimiters. Thank you, berkeman. :-)

Glad to help. Remember that double-$ delimiters are for stand-alone lines of LaTeX, and double-# delimiters are used with in-line LaTeX.

Minor nit -- the character that represents the imaginary unit is always written as i (lower case), not I (upper case).

You need to understand the words. As I see it, Simmons uses the following terms:

$f\, : \,X\longrightarrow Y$ mapping

$X$ is the domain of $f.$

$f(X)$ is the range of $f.$

$f$ maps $X$ into $Y$ means $f(X)\subseteq Y.$

$f$ maps $X$ onto $Y$ means $f(X)= Y,$ surjective.

$f$ maps $X$ one-to-one into $Y$ means $x\neq x' \Longrightarrow f(x)\neq f(x'),$ injective.

$f$ maps $X$ one-to-one onto $Y$ means $f$ is injective, and surjective, i.e., bijective.

So we have two injective embeddings ##f\, ...

My guess is that list tags (BBCode?) don't play well with LaTeX code.
