I am transferring to a university with research opportunities for undergraduate students and I am curious about this. I have never done research in my life and I am really expecting for the best.

Expectations vary from place to place and group to group, but generally you are expected (minimum) to stick to a regular work schedule as your academic schedule allows, learn the ins and outs of whatever lab/equipment you'll be working with, and take on more responsibility the longer you stay.
