Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenges of searching for mathematical solutions on Google, particularly regarding the use of LaTeX for equations. Participants explore methods to effectively input mathematical expressions into search engines and alternative resources for obtaining solutions.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants note that Google does not process LaTeX in its search box, suggesting that only short bits of code might yield results.
  • There is a specific inquiry about how to input the integral ## \int_0^{nπ+v} |sinx| dx ## into Google, with participants expressing frustration over the inability to copy and paste LaTeX directly.
  • One participant suggests that Google Books may provide relevant links, questioning how to phrase queries to make Google understand the mathematical content.
  • Another participant recommends using Wolfram Alpha as an alternative resource, although they express concern about its limitations in showing solution steps without a pro subscription.
  • There is a mention of differences in functionality between mobile and desktop versions of Wolfram Alpha, indicating variability in user experience.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that Google has limitations in processing LaTeX and that alternative resources like Wolfram Alpha may be useful, but there is no consensus on the best method to input mathematical queries for optimal results.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not resolved the specific methods for effectively querying Google with mathematical expressions, and there are unresolved questions about how to obtain detailed solution steps from Wolfram Alpha.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be useful for students, educators, or anyone interested in finding mathematical solutions online, particularly those who use LaTeX for equations.

I get most of the solutions of plain text on Google, showing various links or books.
But questions having mathematical equation in them are not shown on Google.
Is there a way to write latex on Google?

Google does not accept processed LaTeX in their search box. You can type in some short bits of code and might find something though.

What type of code?
Suppose I have to find solution for ## \int_0^{nπ+v} |sinx| dx ##
This question is not made by me.

Yeah you can't copy and paste that into Google Search

So is there another way to type this integral in google search box?
Definitely some google books links will show this. But how to make google understand that?

I have used that wolframalpha before. It's nice but it doesn't show the steps in getting the answer. Is there something else we must write so that it shows us the steps?

Oh, sorry. I used mobile wolfram alpha earlier and it was different. I not opened the link given by you on first sight.
Although it requires paying for pro alpha to show fulll steps then also it's fine for some steps.
Thanks.
