I have a computer with two USB ports. I plug a remote keyboard and mouse into one of the USB ports. Yesterday the connection failed. There was a big delay for characters appearing on the screen and many were missing. I plugged into the other USB port and everything was fine. I however need both ports.

I figure some software is messing with the now-bad USB port. Rebooting doesn't help. Task Manager doesn't show anything unusual. I installed some software having to do with image processing recently and the uninstall had no effect, maybe that has something to do with it. When I tried to delete the folder in which the program resides this failed as "the folder or the file in it is open in another program." This shouldn't be. The startup list appears to be OK. Now what? I've contacted the company's customer support, maybe they can help.

To me, it sounds like a hardware problem.
Assuming that it is not a USB hardware problem, you can try reinstalling the USB driver. Check with the manufacturer of that computer. Failing that, Google it and pick the one that matches your OS.

I got rid of the unwanted software. This didn't solve the problem. I plugged my audio interface into the bad USB port and that seems to work just fine. That's strange but I'm back in business.

How long is the USB? Is it longer than, say, 186,000 miles?

Sometimes, you can draw too much power from a USB port, causing it to shut down.

This usually occurs on my Mac mini with a warning because I use an unpowered USB docking station with extra USB ports and connect two drives to transfer files from one to the other.

I am having a hell of a time finding a good all-in-one inkjet printer. I must have gone through 5 Canon, 2 HP, one Brother, one Epson and two 4 X 6 photo printers in the last 7 yrs. all have all sort of problems. I don't even know where to start anymore. my price range is $180-$400, not exactly the cheapest ones. Mainly it's for my wife which is not exactly good in tech. most of the problem is the printers kept changing the way it operate. Must be from auto update. I cannot turn off the...
