Wave Fns Overlap: Electron & Hole WF

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Electron and hole wave functions overlap when two electrons occupy the same spatial location simultaneously, effectively behaving as a single particle. This phenomenon occurs due to the nature of electron orbitals, which consist of pairs of electrons. When the wave functions of these electrons overlap, they can be conceptualized as merging into one entity, although interpretations may vary among physicists.

PREREQUISITES
  • Quantum mechanics fundamentals
  • Understanding of wave functions
  • Basic knowledge of electron orbitals
  • Familiarity with particle physics concepts
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the principles of quantum superposition
  • Explore the implications of electron and hole interactions in semiconductors
  • Research the mathematical formulation of wave functions in quantum mechanics
  • Investigate interpretations of quantum mechanics, such as the Copenhagen interpretation
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, quantum mechanics students, and researchers in semiconductor technology will benefit from this discussion on electron and hole wave functions and their overlap.

They simply overlap, two electrons are at the same place.. at the same time.

And actually electron orbitals are composed of two electrons, two behave as one particle... you can imagine if two wave functions overlap it's sort of like these two functions become one a.k.a the particles merge. But that depends on your interpretation
